Esperança – Cabaret Theater by Céline Valette – english version
Nominanda Casares is a political refugee opressed by the Franco dictatorship in 1939. The Spanish civil war tears the country apart. Our heroine crosses the border not to be captured. When she arrives in France, she takes a boat to Chile. The crossing is difficult, noone will give up. Epidemics, internal conflicts, repeted technical incidents are increasing aboard the Winnipeg. It will take courage, determination and a lot of hope for the heroine and all the other characters to this story not to think to revenge or to despair. A new life awaits them in Chile.
Some comments from our readers :
“Esperança is a particularly interesting play; the staging is detailed, and the historical narrative immerses us in the Franco dictatorship through a story set in the confined space of a ship at sea.” Myriam (Belgium)
“A thought-provoking theme delivered with a light touch—a masterful blend.” Etienne (Catalonia)
“It is enjoyable and easy to read; songs complement the dialogue.” Quentin (France)
“I really loved reading Esperança. The way you portrayed the characters made their emotions feel so real—I could sense their hopes, fears, and thoughts as if I were right there beside them. The story captivated me so completely that I didn’t want to stop reading. I wanted to know more, to see how the story unfolded and stay connected to the characters. You have created a truly compelling work. A great artist.” N. Silvana (Australia)
