Freedom for press

How can we not think about press freedom today? may 3rd has been proclaimed by the UN as World Press Freedom Day to celebrate: the fundamental principles of press freedom, to assess press freedom around the world, to defend media independence, and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Listening to podcasts, reading newspapers, and staying informed through other formats via free and independent media are essential for maintaining our critical thinking skills. Long life for freedom !

Suggestion of the end of the year

It was a pleasure to share a book on November 20th at the Le Presse Papier bookstore’s book club. For this event, I chose to present “Women Also Made History” by Titiou Lecoq.

This book recounts the epic story of women chronologically throughout history, rectifying facts.

During this presentation, the readers present suggested two other books: one was *L’inconnue du portrait* by Camille Perretti, and the other was *Le cantique du chaos* by Mathieu Belezi, a dystopian novel. The bookseller made slightly different choices, which I also invite you to discover.

With that, I wish you all happy holidays.

Culture as a bulwark against obscurantism

In a previous article, I mentioned a survey by the National Book Center concerning reading in 2025, which complements the information and knowledge that I learned during this conference organized by occitanie culture (occitanie livre). During the web conference on illiteracy and illiteracy that I attended, I asked myself several questions about the socio-economic consequences, dropping out of school seems to me to be one of them. The interventions were very interesting. To find out more here are two links, one to the official website of national book center and the other to occitanie culture.

Creation of characters : the behavior

When creating characters, whether for a novel or a play, two notions are important: observation and empathy. It is possible to imagine the physique and character traits beforehand, however, observing reality allows you to create very realistic fictional characters. Where are they heading? what pushes them to act?

Likewise, asking yourself what the characters feel, making them act according to their values to maintain a certain logic, all of this is part of what we can call empathy for the characters we create. Personally, I have always really liked the characters in my stories and when I had to create “bad guys” it was never easy and I often write them a past that helps enlighten readers.
